Wow, what a few weeks it's been.
For those of you not in the know, I've been in school since September and have been attempting to juggle my classes and finding a job. While school has been relatively easy, the job hunting has become a bit complicated. I was fortunate enough to be offered a job back with Avid (a high college prep program) but due to the stupid bureaucracy of the LAUSD I am unable to get paid for my first month of work. To make things worse, I may also not get paid for October...-_-.
Normally, I wouldn't have much of a problem with that except that I'm desperately trying to pay down my credit card bill (most of which does NOT come from my venture in Europe but actually from me paying for various school related expenses that a recent Csu tuition fee hike left me with). In that type of situation, you have to do whatever it takes to get employed and I tried my best to land another job.
Around this same time, I was able to land a job under No Child Left Behind as a private tutor. Now, I was really excited about this job (especially since I could work out my own schedule and I was going to be getting paid well!) but it's just my luck that as soon as I was ready to work they had filled in all of their positions. So where did that leave me? It turns out that I have to wait til mid-October to be assigned a student (and thus wait til mid-November to get paid).
That's just my luck.
It's not so bad I guess (albeit I'm poorer than I'd like to be). It does give me extra time to do my work, work out, and study for the GRE.
Speaking of which, I'm so nervous about that. I need to study hard in order to do good. I'm terrible at standardized tests so I'm naturally worried about how I'll do. My Grad School hopes will really rely on my Personal Statement and grades. For my sake, I hope that's enough!
As for Grad School, I have a few options that I've been thinking about...half of which are in Cali. The other half? Out of state all across the country. I have a couple of schools that I have my heart set on for numerous reasons but will ultimately make a decision based on what meets my needs the most.
To be honest, I feel I don't have much reason to stay in California. Now don't get me wrong, I've loved my life here. I just feel a bit...hesitant about living here any longer. A lot of what kept me here (both in Cali and LA) has either changed or left my life altogether.
I found a lot of myself in Swansea...who knows what else I'll find living in another city?
